Description of Parkinson’s disease Parkinson’s disease was first described in 1817 by London physician James Parkinson and translated into Czech as polio shaky. In fact, but not polio, and so he was later renamed after its discoverer. In this disease,…
increased salivation
Other names: salivation, excessive salivation
Increased production of saliva salivary glands in the mouth occurs when the mucous membranepungent and spicy food, mechanical stimulation and the inflammatory process (tonsillitis, abscesses, …). Sparse secretion of saliva controls the parasympathetic headed by its errant nerve (autonomic nervous system), in which the predominant activity (eg. At night, or looking at the tempting food) is also naturally increases saliva production. Likewise is the case with some drugs (parasympathomimetics – drugs mimicking parasympathetic), where the increased saliva only side effect.
When tension increased sympathetic (autonomic nervous system as well), by contrast, consists of saliva few, but on the other hand, thicker consistency. Sympathetic dominance may have many causes (e.g. stress, fear, etc.)..
Special attention, however insignificant beside salivating deserve life-threatening conditions associated with excessive production of saliva, such as rabies and some poisoning. Rabies causes a virus transmitted by saliva. After being bitten by an animal (mostly dog, fox, bat, cat, but rarely even man!) The disease is manifested salivation, seizures, painful spasms of the swallowing muscles, fever, loss of appetite, aerofobií (blowing-in of the skin causing pain), and hydrophobia (a view of the water or the sound flowing water causes convulsions). Sick animals are either aggressive or lethargic, just as it is in humans. Rabies is deadly, and when reasonable suspicion or license bitten by an infected animal requires lengthy administration of the vaccines before they develop symptoms. The chance of recovery is actually just the incubation period (approximately 10 days after the bite, sometimes a little longer).
Therefore we decided to avoid contact with stray animals strangers, especially if you operate their behavior strange impression!
Salivation may be one of the symptoms of poisoning by insecticides (organophosphates, carbamates) and mushrooms, Amanita muscaria frequently. Started 0.5-2 hours after eating toadstools along with tearing, constricted pupils, stomach pains and later succeeding the contrary, significant dry mouth, alternating states of euphoria and depression. Patient can fall into a coma.
Shortly after eating toadstools (eg. Children) try to induce vomiting. It also helps charcoal or gastric lavage and medication (eg. Diazepam) cramps.
Poisoning with chemical pesticides (pest control agents) have symptoms vary greatly. Salivation is again a sign of parasympathetic activation. When poisoning with atropine is administered by that system hangs. Firstly, it is important oxygen therapy. Both in mushroom poisoning, and insecticides, it is necessary to bring a human as soon as possible to the hospital!
