Lymph (lymph) nodes are basically filters through which the sap flows (lymph). They are concentrated white blood cells that control fluid flow. When present in the sap of some foreign particles such as bacteria, nodes respond by increasing, because white blood cells fighting infection begin to proliferate.
Different groups of nodes always drained by a certain area of the body. As enlarged nodes are referred to, those which have an average of more than 1 cm below the chin and groin lymph nodes are normal to 1.5cm. In lean individuals as we grope as normal lymph nodes in the neck, armpits and groin.
Enlarged lymph nodes may be in response to inflammation or tumor in the area of infectious diseases or may be caused by leukemia or lymphoma.
Nodes in the groin passes sap external genitals and around the enlargement therefore often refers to inflammation or other diseases of the genital organs.
