Black, tarry and sweet-smelling stool is called melena. Her appearance is conditioned by the presence of digested blood pigment. Source bleeding will therefore be located in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum, and is the bleeding greater than 100 ml. Its cause may be esophageal varices, gastric ulcer or duodenal hemorrhagic gastropathy and others (see. Flag Black stool). When it found darker blood in the otherwise normally colored faeces is probably the source of bleeding descending or sigmoid colon (large intestine). This type of bleeding is called enterorrhagia and its cause may be polyps, diverticulosis or tumors.
Located where the red blood only on the surface of the stool, is the site of bleeding rectum (anus) or the anal canal and its most common cause of hemorrhoids or fissures in the anal canal.
Small amounts of blood caught sporadically should not in itself raises cause for concern, the condition often resolves spontaneously. The doctors we go where in the case of repeated problem, or if bleeding is intensified.
