While painful enlarged lymph nodes are technically called lymphadenopathy. Nodes are grouped in the body in certain locations – on the neck, under the jaw, armpits, groin, but also in the chest between the lungs and other internal organs nearby, where we can feel even know about them larger.When the body does any inflammation, always increases nodules in the area of inflammation. Take place in them an immune response as for example the multiplication of viruses that can get to other nodes via the lymphatic vessels until then get into the blood and will result in systemic symptoms such as fever. Until the inflammation is localized only in the lymph nodes, the symptoms of pain in their area and various local mucosal manifestations, which at the very pain nodes usually dominate and bring the person to the doctor (sore throat, etc.).

Pain in different nodes

Nodal involvement often helps doctors with diagnosis. Swollen and tender lymph nodes above the occipital region at the back of the head (ear level) is the most common harbinger of rubella – children’s illness with rash. Further down the back of his neck closer to the neck are nodes, which increases during the Toxoplasma parasite (disease transmitted by cats or by eating undercooked meat containing parasites). Under the ear is bigger and sore lymph nodes in inflammation of the middle ear, frequent illness in young children. Between the ear and the eye you can feel nodules inconjunctivitis. Under jaw nodes are “attacked” the most angina. The neck is heavily swollen glands in diphtheria. Above key enlarged lymph nodes indicate a process in the chest or mediastinum. The groin nodes are draining lymph from lower extremities and also some internal reproductive organs, which can therefore proceed inflammation in their pain and enlargement. It is usually the case for example with sexually transmitted diseases (Chlamydia infection, syphilis, herpes viruses …).

For some diseases are enlarged nodes broadly – in infectious mononucleosis (there of course dominated magnification submandibular and cervical nodes), chicken pox, HIV, syphilis (dominated magnification in the groin), toxoplasmosis (dominates the occipital region) but also in tumors and other diseases where however, absent a pain!

Nodes were mostly on palpation, therefore does not cause too much difficulty. Patients with inflammatory diseases have in addition to a whole range of other symptoms which tend to be more troublesome and which should be the focus of treatment. Otherwise, it is possible to give a painful nodules warm compresses.

Skin over the nodes might be red, hot, and when advanced and untreated inflammation (eg, tuberculosis, tularemia, …) can compromise the contents of nodes out some fistulas.

Soreness nodes is a major difference from the enlarged nodes in leukemias and lymphomas – malignant tumors arising precisely from the lymph nodes and immune system. During prolonged gradual enlargement of lymph nodes, some would prefer to see your doctor!
