As a butterfly rash in medical lingo facial flushing resembling the shape of a butterfly – a symmetrical redness on the cheeks to the bridge of his nose.
It is one of the typical symptoms of the disease, which is called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE abbreviation). This rash usually appears after sunbathing. SLE has many other manifestations, it is also affecting the joints and organs. For the diagnosis of SLE, therefore, butterfly rash itself is not enough, because it may occur alone.
Similar facial flushing may also be accompanied by some purely skin diseases such as rosacea (rosacea).
