Birthmarks, professionally nevi, are essentially benign (noncancerous) nádorky skin.
May be present at birth, in which case the result of local anomalies in the development of skin, or formed during life. They are not dangerous, but can sometimes pose a cosmetic problem for the victim. Also, they must be timely distinguished from cancer, in particular melanoma.
Nevi may arise from the blood vessels and pigment cells of the skin. Examples of vascular nevus is a “fire”, naevus flammeus, congenital nevus, whose basis is the multiplication of the capillaries in the skin. Capillaries are filled with blood, so it looks like this nevus more red to purple blotch, often localized in the face. It is generally well removed with a laser.
Pigmented nevi consist of a cluster of pigment cells, melanocytes, which contain dark pigment melanin. In some cases the problem can be distinguished from a pigmented nevus and melanoma diagnosis determined by histologic examination after surgical removal nevus.
